U.S. Newswire : Releases : "Iraq Expert Comments on House Vote on...GOP publicity stunt"

Tonight, the House of Representatives will vote on a resolution for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. This is a desperate stunt meant to reverse momentum building for ending the war in Iraq, spurred most recently by U.S. Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), a decorated Korea and Vietnam war veteran and longtime congressional hawk on military matters, who surprised many in Washington yesterday with his call for leaving Iraq within six months.

Now Murtha and anyone who advocates bringing our troops home are being attacked by Republicans. The Republicans are calling Murtha a coward for "cutting and running."

"Those who call to 'stay the course' in Iraq and call those with a different view 'cut and runners' have cut and run from reality. Congressman Murtha, a well-respected military expert, is right, we must change course in Iraq and bring our troops home," said Martin. "This cynical stunt by the Republicans will not work, since the majority of Americans now oppose the Iraq war. Instead of scorn, Mr. Murtha deserves praise for his courage and leadership."

Martin has worked in the peace movement for over 20 years and is an expert on foreign policy, nuclear weapons and security issues. Martin's writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and many other publications. He has appeared on CNN, National Public Radio, Fox News, MSNBC, BBC-TV and radio, and many other local, national and international media outlets.
