Withdraw from Iraq in 2006 = Nukes in Iran/ Iraq after December 2006

Nothing good will come out of Bush having troops not bogged down by his 2 current wars. We will be giving him another blank check to spend American blood & money as he seems fit. Do you trust him to use it responsibly this time ? (I've just posted this at kos -- law)

Just simple math:

"Tactical nukes" on Bush wishlist minus 100,000 Americans in the vicinity = Nukes in Iraq or Iran

Bushies itching to use "tactical nukes"
On today's recommended diaries list we have kant's diary asking Will U.S. Use Nukes by 2008? where he shows:

the Bush administration's decision to actively plan for possible preemptive use of such weapons, especially as so-called bunker busters, against Iraq

The political downfall of nuking Iran / Iraq now

As kant's diary points out, public opinion has yet to be groomed for a nuke deployment. Even among the Bush faithful, some would do a double take because:

* 100,000 Americans are close enough to be showered with nuclear downfall
* The pure shock of having US using a nuke after 60 years of "abstinence"

Preparing the public for nukes
Congressman Tancredo's pledge to nuke Mecca and Cheney's musings about nuking Iran were just the first salvos of their PR campaign.. By November 2006, with election concerns out of the way and most Americans out of Iraq, they MAY HAVE public opinion on their side. What will stop Cheney from trying nukes ?

Withdrawing lots of troops a few months before 2006 elections = GOP victory
In my diary Daily Kos: Top 10 reasons pro/against withdrawing from Iraq I describe how this is so:

Believe it or not, IMHO, withdrawal would be good for the GOP, as it would remove the pain the war is inflicting on average Americans. And just like Vietnam with Nixon, the GOP will be able to reap the political benefits of stopping the war. Meanwhile Dems will be vulnerable to GOP's "Tinkerbell defense" for failing on the war: Since we didn't clap loud enough we are responsible for it's failing...

No nukes in Iran before troop withdrawal
Even Cheney / Bush couldn't be THAT calous! Or that politically stupid.

The atmosphere can form a lens and propel nuke radiation to the top of the troops in Iraq. They are not that far, you know ? Remeber how far the Chernobyl poisons traveled to in Europe ?

Not to mention it would put troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in the line of fire to a direct hit by nukes. As a retaliation - by Pakistani based fanatics (Mushy can't control squat there) or someone else w/ nukes in the area...

December 2006, elections out of the way, Troops out of the way...
What will prevent Cheney and Bush from trying "Shock & Awe" again, with more enphasys on the "shock" this time (and less need to control a rebelious local population after the "awe" wears off) ?

My biggest fear is freeing up money, troops and Middle East real state while Cheney and Bush are still with all 3 branches of government in their hand. Like a drug addict, leave them with money and they will use it on their vice: War

I do believe that nothing will prevent Cheney from nuking Iran and/or Iraq once there are fewer Americans there. He and his supporters are itching to use their new cluster nukes that allegedly only hit a small area. And Bush is probably going to think that a 3rd war will finally make him the big War President figure he tries to immitate.

At least with 100,000 Americans there we know Cheney, Bolton et all won't dare use nukes. The political downfall would be too great.

That is why I am against any withdraw until we - at least - retrieve Congress from those bunch of madman in the WH!

I understand your point... by Bob Johnson

... but that is speculation.

In the meantime, how many more people will die? That fact is NOT speculation.

So sacrificing more folks because of what might happen is hard to justify, in my opinion.

I see your point too... by lawnorder

But what will prevent Bush from sending the troops returning from Iraq to a war with Iran ?

Nothing, Nada, Zippo.

I admit that having Bushies nuking Iran or Iraq is speculation. But having they send troops to Iran if they get a sizable contingent of troops back from Iraq is pretty much a sure thing IMHO.

I believe THAT is the reason why Rummie mentioned we could have the troops out soon last July. Either that or he suddnely grew a conscience [talk about speculating the impossible!)...

Troops will still die in Iran... by lawnorder

Freeing up troops and money while those madman own all 3 branches of government is dangerous IMHO.

Nothing good will come out of Bush having troops not bogged down by his 2 current wars. We will be giving him another blank check to spend American blood & money as he seems fit. Do you trust him to use it responsibly this time ?
