Pathfinder Mars Misson a Success

Pathfinder Mars Misson a Success
Volume 4, Issue 1 (September 4, 1997)

As the Mir fiasco was making future expeditions to the stars seem futile, expensive and dangerous, the Mars Pathfinder mission gave them new promise. At a fraction of the cost of a manned space mission to the Red Planet, the scrappy rover, which looked common enough to come straight out of a child¹s Erector set, was conquering the dormant (?) Martian landscape. NASA regained its foothold in the national media, as well as the nation¹s imagination, as its press conferences brought us as close as a live TV camera crew to the red sands of Mars.
