lawnorder: End of the world posts

Some end of the world musings by yours truly and others:

And finally
The mystical:
Daily Kos: Mayans thought 2012 was the end of an era
2300 years ago The ancient Mayan or pre-Maya choose December 21st, 2012 A.D, as the end of their Long Count calendar
2012 marks the end of an Astronomical Era ?

2012 is a significant step in a thousands of years old dance move between Earth, the Sun and the Galaxy

* 1 - It is the date when the solstice sun gets into an extremely close conjunction between the Earth's orbit and the Milky way.
* 2 - The precession of the Equinox causes the earth's axis to point to Aquarius instead of Pisces or what movie fans know as the Dawn of the Age of Aquarius
* 3 - Close to the date when the polar star Polaris is closest to the North Pole (2017), an event 1,000+ years in the making.
* 4 - Solstice sun in 2012 crosses a rift on the Milky Way
* 5 - A new Ice Age is starting to form ?
* 6 - Solar flares peak
* 7 - Peak Oil hits the fan

The pratical:
Daily Kos: It's the end of the World as we know it. And Bush feels fine

Peak Oil
Some claim PEAK OIL has hit us already. some claim it will hit us soon (between 2007 and 2030). It could derail civilization as we have known in the 20th century. It's just a matter of time.

Life After the Oil Crash
Are you ready for $7 per gallon gas, $182 per barrel oil, 50 percent yearly inflation, total economic collapse, unending resource wars, and a large-scale reinstitution of the military draft?

See No Peaking for some hope on Peak Oil
"societies that include significant levels of self-ownership and private property, along with a low-friction exchange system ('money') tend to have a 'price mechanism' that creates incentives for producing, conserving and replacing scarce and desired commodities. Unless the economies of Easter Island and North Korea included this price mechanism they're not counterexamples

2012 is a bunch of crap. Everyone should take note regarding Y2k. it was hyped up to make people go out and stock up food and necessities yet nothing happened. This is another History Channel video trying to get everyone in a frenzy. None of it is true. No one on earth can predict any future. We can only interpret what we feel.
